FAQs

We welcome all levels at Roots Surf Camp, from complete beginners to experienced and advanced surfers. Our instructors will tailor the lessons to the skill level of each group and individual, so everyone can progress at their own pace.

To ensure personalized attention and quality instruction, we maintain a small student-to-teacher ratio in our lessons. The ratio of instructors to students is, at the most, 1:5 for beginner lessons and 1:6 for intermediate and advanced lessons.

Our surf camp is suitable for guests of all ages and fitness levels. However, to participate in the surf lessons, guests should be able to swim.

We recommend packing comfortable clothes, swimwear, a towel, as well as sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. You should also bring any personal items, such as toiletries and medications, as well as any necessary documents, such as a passport if you are traveling internationally. If you have your own surfboard or wetsuit, feel free to bring them along if you wish. Otherwise, we provide all surf equipment.

Absolutely! While Roots Surf Camp is more focused on surfing, we also offer a range of other activities for non-surfers, such as yoga classes, stand-up paddleboarding, skateboarding, social activities and tours of the local area. Your companion can also enjoy the swiming pool, beaches amd sightseeing in Cascais and Lisbon.

Surfing in Portugal is a year-round activity, thanks to its favorable climate and diverse coastline. However, depending on your surfing skill and preference for wave conditions, certain times of the year may be more appealing. During the summer months, the water is warmer and the waves are generally smaller, making it a great time for beginners to learn. In the winter, the waves tend to be bigger and more challenging, which is perfect for intermediate and advanced surfers. In any case, we always go where the best conditions are for the skill of the groups we have at any moment.
